About Me

Based in Reigate, Surrey, I am a friendly, technical, passionate and precise freelance graphic and web designer with many years of experience creating a wide range of print and online work. As well as my years freelancing, I have worked as an in-house brand designer and as part of creative agency teams.

Currently freelancing, I am available for graphic and web design tasks of any size, anywhere in the world. I provide an extremely flexible, courteous, competitive and thorough service, taking pride in carefully guiding clients through the creative process, ensuring that even the minute, remarkable details of your projects shine.

As a designer I follow a fastidious approach to composition as well as maintaining the accuracy of all visuals and text, and I relish the challenge of being taken out of my comfort zone. I thrive when problem solving, pushing myself to keep abreast of new technology and methodology to allow my work to evolve with all ideas that I develop.

Why choose a freelance designer over an agency?

With only my own wages to pay and no costly premises expenses, I can deliver agency-quality creative solutions at a fraction of the cost. When creating visual representations for your brand, communication is vital to achieving the desired design outcome; being your sole contact and creative gives you direct access to the work-in-progress, without having to go through a third party such as an agency account manager. Put simply; my service is extremely personal, efficient, flexible and collaborative.

Looking for a freelancer for your agency?

I’d be happy to help! I am available as an on-site freelance graphic and web designer predominantly within Surrey, but can travel further if required. For off-site freelance work, I am able to work with any agency, no matter the location.

Sam Ricketts Design: Surrey

2015 – present
Since 2015 I’ve been back doing what I truly love, working as a freelance designer for a great mixture of clients and also within numerous local design agencies. During this time I’ve worked on brand development, websites (design & build), logo designs, advertising, eNews, assorted promotional materials, brochures and packaging design… I adore the variety of work I get as a freelancer and am happy to help with absolutely any kind of project!

SERIOUS Marketing: Cobham
Graphic Designer

2014 – 2015
Collaborating with the Creative Partner, Art Director and the accounts team, or working alone to conceptualise and execute campaigns, both print and digital, for clients predominantly in the education and finance sectors.

The small scale of the creative team coupled with projects often running to very strict deadlines and budgets meant that this role required great flexibility, a broad knowledge of print and digital media and an efficient approach to working.

In my time with SERIOUS I was responsible for creating myriad print promotions, advertising and branding as well as designing digital advertising and landing pages. I am proud to say that throughout my time at SERIOUS I helped to shape some extremely successful, bold and exciting new sub-brands and campaigns for several key clients, including the recent re-branding of the University of Leicester.

Sam Ricketts Design: Bangkok
Freelance Graphic & Web Designer

2012 – 2014
Whilst living in Bangkok I turned my freelance work into a full time occupation, quickly gaining several large, regular clients, most of whom I still work for now. Working on branding, product design, van livery creation, promotional campaign inception and the design and build of websites for numerous companies, this was an extremely busy time in my career. A large part of my time was spent acting as the Project Manager / Lead Designer on a six month project for InterContinental Hotels, creating four vast hotel set-up ‘Smart Guides’ for use throughout Asia. It was during this period that I started working with Shrimp Asia, a key branding agency in Bangkok, for whom I designed a new website and created accompanying 3D illustrations.

Fable Trading Ltd: Bristol
Online Design & Content Manager

2009 – 2012
Working for the UK distributor of the Trollbeads and Buddha To Buddha jewellery brands, my main responsibilities were varied, encompassing online and printed design work as well as developing and maintaining a total of seven business-to-consumer and business-to-business websites; maintaining a high standard of imagery on each site and developing new promotional opportunities. I completely redesigned the business-to-business Trollbeads site, and created consumer and retailer sites for the new Buddha to Buddha brand, each offering greater upselling opportunities and user personalisation.

In this wide-ranging role I also designed numerous promotional posters, event tickets, magazine advertisements, shop displays and banners, retailer point of sale promotional materials, newsletters and the Spring / Summer 2011 look book for the fashion press. My full-page Trollbeads advertisements appeared in Glamour, Grazia, Elle, Marie Claire, Red and She magazines, among others.
